Critical measures for airspace control
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım authorized the Operations Center to ‘down the captured friendly planes’. Hence, necessary measures were taken to ensure the landing of the combat aircrafts and helicopters used by the coup plotters. Upon Yıldırım’s order; loaded air defense planes took off from Erzurum at 04:53, Diyarbakır at 05.02, Dalaman at 05.43, Balıkesir at 06.49. By the pressure of the 48 F-16 jets, the uncontrolled airborne planes were forced to land. Tanker aircrafts drained fuel and landed.
